Staying True To You

“Stay true to yourself, yet always be open to learn. Work hard, and never give up on your dreams, even when nobody else believes they can come true but you. These are not clichés but real tools you need no matter what you do in life to stay focused on your path.” -Phillip Sweet

Many of us go through life reacting to situations and making life choices based on past judgements and experiences. For a moment, think of how your life would be different if you identified your voice, your path, your brand and made decisions accordingly. However, even when you know who you are and where you want to go, in a world full of distractions, it’s too easy to get off path. When faced with options, our mind chatter kicks in and we have a great way of talking ourselves in or out of every situation.

For me and what I share with the clients I coach– it’s all about that gut feeling. You know, that immediate instinctual reaction when a situation presents itself, before the mind chatter starts. When you are identifying your value and planning your path, pay close attention to the feeling tone that comes with it. Visualize your goals and the feelings you want to have so that when you make your decisions, you will know if it’s right for you based on the feeling you receive. Some of you may be saying “Feeling tone??? What’s that?!” Well, I have a fun little story to share that may help shed a little light.

For the longest time I have wanted a dog. Not any dog, but a very specific, fluffy little Pomeranian puppy. I wanted him so badly that I knew I knew him already. I even got a stuff animal that was his exact breed, exact look and I nicknamed the stuff animal BooBoo, which I planned to name my little guy when I was finally given the gift of bringing him into my life. For years, my family and friends who know how much I love dogs would show me other dogs. And so many were so very cute – it was so hard to say no!! And while there were times I found myself wavering for a moment, I kept going back to that feeling – that overwhelming heartwarming glow whenever I pictured my BooBoo. So I waited. And waited. And then it happened! I adopted Manolo, aka BooBoo this Christmas after dreaming of him and waiting for him for years. I am sure I would have been happy with any of those adorable little pups presented over the years, but because I waited, because I held true, I know with no doubt that my little BooBoo and I were destined to be together!

Maybe this resonates with you or maybe you are thinking this is a bit silly – but the feeling tone, the staying true to what your heart really wants, is something you should incorporate into every aspect of your life. From choosing a career to selecting how and with whom you spend your time. I would love for you to give it a try and let us know how this changes your life.
